I have a silly question

When PF bloggers do those no-buy months, what do you do when you run out of something like deodorant? Do you stock up ahead of time? If so, how is that accomplishing anything?

Or do you make an effort to stock up by playing the drug store game or otherwise creating a store you can "shop" from during that time?

Or do you consider a no-buy month a success if you don't buy anything unnecessary, and are really honest with yourself and your readers about what is considered necessary?

I've been thinking about doing this kind of challenge, but then I'll run into a situation like I did today, where I've needed a hygiene product I use regularly and if I was doing a no-buy challenge I'd be really hard-pressed to figure out what to do.

Thoughts from someone who's done one?

  1. I did one for clothes, but I didn't really consider a bridesmaid dress a failure (even though it was horrible!). I think it's about being mindful of your spending and buying just food and things like shampoo maybe.

  2. I think I thought about trying a no buy month.. but realized it was a ridiculous thing for me.

I don't over spend anyway, and I usually keep within some pretty tight guidelines.. so to do a no buy month, would be more of a personal challenge .. but kind of a moot point if you see what I mean.

I think a lot of PF'ers who do no buy, tend to buy extra the month before, but to me, that's kind of cheating in the sense that you KNOW you are going to run out, so you stock up ahead of time.. and instead of spending on June 30th, you spend on July 1st.

    Same difference to me.

What WOULD make a difference is what Dog is saying -- conscious spending. Which is what I preach and practice.

Or if you have a huge stockpile of deodorant that you can't seem to stop yourself from buying when it's on sale LOL.. then it's time to do a no buy YEAR.. :D
