A Real Post From Me!

What's up, y'all?

I'm thisclose to being done with all the moving related things that need to happen so I can get back to blogging. I'm looking forward to it! Here's my checklist of things still to do:

- Finish packing the apartment (truly, it's more than 90% done)
- Return cable modem
- Change address everywhere

Since I've been scatterbrained as of late with everything that's going on, I want to do a little crowd-sourcing. To make sure I don't miss anything, would you leave a comment reminding me of all the places I should think of to change my address? I've given my new address to my landlord (for return of security deposit) and work (for sending COBRA documents), and I've done it with the post office and the two magazine subscriptions I have. Bank accounts, etc. will happen this week. Where else might I forget to change my address?

How have YOU been?

  1. Don't forget to let your family know your new address and your alumni association if you belong to one and reward schemes.

  2. We still occasionally get mail for the previous owners of our place, despite the fact that they filled out a change of address form. Most of the mail we get is from their place of worship, family of his that lives out of the country, and various charities they donated to. I think you've covered everything else, good luck with the rest of the move!

  3. Hmmm, a few off the top of my head:

Government for tax forms, DMV for your driver's license, Airmiles and any other points programs (including grocery store ones), hosting services for your websites and domain names, any part time jobs or freelance jobs so they know where to send tax forms.

That's all I can think of for now. One suggestion I have is to look through your wallet or purse and see what cards and stuff are in there that would need to be notified. And if you have a little more time, a quick glance at your files would be a good idea too.

  4. You work place also needs your new address so they can send your W2 to the right place in January. So make sure the address is good for a while. It also couldn't hurt to follow up with them in January to make sure the form is sent to the right address. I had an issue with that one year even though I had provided a new address in writing and over email.

  5. Don't forget to do any retirement accounts and insurance policies. You should do one for the advertisements on your blog. Also, your E-bay or Amazon accounts should be changed to your new address. I will often just log in, buy something and not double check the address.

  6. Speaking of insurance, make sure your insurance company both changes your mailing address and the address on your actual policy (I used to have an incompetent agent who managed to only get one of those accomplished -- he is no longer my agent)

Let's see, credit cards if you have any, your student loans, any place where you have a membership that would send you a renewal form by mail rather than e-mail. PayPal if you use that. I'll keep thinking ...
