Weekly Money Checkup

Weekly Money Check-Up is a weekly series on My Pretty Pennies

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was - oh, man, I don't even want to think about it. Probably the movers, although that was money so well spent. Friends stopped by the evening of the move to see if they could help, and I was sitting down with a book and a glass of wine because I'd run out of stuff to do. Compare that to their move which took an entire day to move only half their stuff, and a friend stuck in the elevator for two hours. (We have similar sized apartments/houses - so they were very surprised!)

2. Today I am thankful for the move being over, starting to feel settled, and Peanut.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was read a great book from the library.

4. I will consider this week a success if I make it to a yoga class!

5. My purse contains my wallet, a small notebook, my phone, and a small pouch containing earbuds, chapstick and toothpicks. It's normally more full than that, but I seem to have pared down significantly with this move! It actually feels way too empty, and makes me want to get a new, smaller sized purse - but that's seriously unnecessary right now. Instead, I guess I'll go find some junk to put inside it. :)

  1. We just bought a house in Minneapolis and close on 2/16. I really want to hire movers, because we have a nine year old and a one year old and the thought of getting people together to move and dealing with the kids just seems daunting. If you don't mind me asking, how much did your movers cost?

  2. Our movers cost less than $500 including a 10% tip - the actual cost for moving was just under $400. Even better than the cost, however, was the time - from start to finish, it was about 3 hours and 45 minutes. That means that the evening of the move, I was kicked back relaxing instead of being frantic, and I wasn't sore or exhausted from carrying boxes all day. I'd wholeheartedly recommend using movers in general, and I'd definitely recommend the ones we used - Matt's Moving.

  3. I would have thought that the movers would have been much more expensive. I think that sounds worth it.

  4. We have got the movers coming in to pack tomorrow and then the move the next day. As they are packing it all we are going to the movies tomorrow night with our friends. I am so happy we have movers (paid for by my husbands workplace) as I am not experiencing any stress or having to take time off work.
