So, that happened

September weather: variable
September goals: canceled
September spending: unpredictable
September birthdays now in the Moneybags family: 1

To our great surprise, Baby Moneybags was born this week via emergency c-section at just over 25 weeks gestation. She is healthy for her age and being taken care of in a NICU, and I am recovering fairly well from everything.

Things may be a little quiet around here for a while. At the same time, there are a million financial aspects to the situation we are now in and I will be trying to cover as many of them as I can - there are so many possibilities in a pregnancy, and so many things that seem so unlikely to happen, and yet they're going to happen to someone. If anyone has links to blogs by moms of NICU babies, I would be incredibly grateful if you send them my way.

The last month of my life has been the craziest, scariest, happiest, and most unbelievable thing that has ever happened to me. I hope that trend is not going to continue, but we do know that the next several months will be a roller coaster ride as Baby M learns to live outside the womb and we learn how to be parents a little quicker than expected.

More soon!

  1. So... huh. you could have been one of those stories on TV about women who go into labor not knowing they're pregnant!!! (though it sounds like you probably didn't go into labor)

This must have been an insanely stressful week. Talk about zero to sixty in the last three weeks!

Best of luck to your family!

  3. No blogs, but I do have a cousin with a preemie baby. I believe she was born at 24 weeks (1 pound 10 ounces). And she's now in first grade, doing great!

  4. Well HOLY COW. As I mentioned, I completely missed your post about discovering that you *were* pregnant after all because GReader had crapped out on me so this is a double whammy surprise.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And my goodness!! Unfortunately I can't think of any preemie mom blogs right now but if I do, I will send them your way ASAP. Take care!

  6. Wcome baby M! Two of my daughter's were micropreemies. They've each been impacted differently and one has significant challenges, but both are absolutely perfect! They are five and seven now, but this brief post took me right back to those moments in the NICU. It's a rollercoaster, but you will discover your stronger than you ever imagined. I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts for your little one.

  7. Holy moly!! Those are two of the craziest turns of events I can fathom! Congratulations and welcome to your little one!

This gal had twins in the NICU for a while: http://stateiamin.com. The twins just turned two, so you'll have to go back a bit in the archives, but I remember her blogging extensively about their NICU experience.

  8. Wow! Congratulations! I hope that you and the baby and Peanut are all doing well. I imagine that it is going to be crazy for a while, here. The good thing is that there are really great NICUs in Minneapolis, so hopefully your little one thrives at one of those!! :)

I read http://flotsamblog.com/ -- Alexa had a preemie quite a few years ago and you can read her blog archives for that experience. She is local, too, so that is kind of nice.

I don't know any pre-mie blogs but can recommend mothering.com, they have a lot of babys ections..

2 moms I knew a coupleof years ago had premies and were big advocates of kanagroo care.. (baby and mom, skin to skin) apaparnelty that helps premie babies immensely!

Thinking of you and your babay and your family!!! :)

  17. Oh my goodness! I'm just catching up (my Google Reader went on strike too) and found this! I hope you and Baby Moneybags are doing well. On the preemie blog front, it's from a few years ago, but http://www.alittlepregnant.com went through an emergency birth and nicu stay with her first. The link to when it started is here:
